where is the cable guy?

Posted in general at 4:01 pm by rachelmetz

he was supposed to be here (for the third time) between 4-7. it is 6:56 p.m. i am getting skeptical.

saw the superheroes exhibit at the met… that shit was pretty cool. also the balloon animal sculpture thing on the roof there, though it was hard to look at since it was all metallic yellow and the sun was out. :]

long weekend, i love you.

so i realize i’ve been a bit…er… delinquent in updating this blog. i guess it has something to do with spending so much time writing at work — by the time i get home, i’m not really in the most bloggy mood. also, i feel like i have nothing substantial to say. even now, at this moment, i’m boring myself with what i’m writing, so i can’t imagine anyone else will find it interesting to read. :]

a few things…

i just finished “the brief wondrous life of oscar wao” by junot diaz (amazing) and i’m halfway done with the book “never let me go” by kazuo shiguro (super interesting, dystopic, depressing).

i have become an amateur plumber! i fixed our toilet this week, saving the landlord a nice plumbing bill by buying a new part for our porcelain throne and installing it myself.

i got this awesome necklace at brooklyn flea.

i had a story in the wash post the other day and they spelled my name correctly.

lee came to town and i got to see her for almost exactly nine hours. that was enough time for us to do some major retail damage at century 21 and various stores in soho.

i’ve been drinking coffee, and i hate it less than i used to. this is sort of horrifying.

i keep having dreams about the hamster that i had in college. do not want.

i’m no longer playing with cfl, but am working on my own stuff, as usual.  recently finished a new song, and maybe, maybe will play out somewhere. maybe.

a pepperoni slice, hold the feathers

Posted in general at 8:04 pm by rachelmetz

this evening i went to my local pizza joint — the place where they make tin foil roses for me and get a little suspicious whenever i bring a guy with me, even if it’s one of my brothers — and something odd happened.

i was waiting for my pizza and this strange woman behind me suddenly started calling out, “i got it, i got it, i got it,” ostensibly to her male companion.

i turned around, and saw she was motioning toward a little green parrot that was on the floor. she picked up the bird, i turned to pay for my food, and when i looked back again, the freaking bird had totally disappeared.

um… yeah. that was kind of weird.

this story came out today; it’s a review of the belkin tunestudio, which is a four-channel audio mixer with integrated ipod dock. also had to do a video podcast along with my review, which shows cfl playing at a practice.

amazon weirdness

Posted in general at 8:39 pm by rachelmetz

so after seeing the oddity that is the “i (heart) jennifer 8 lee” shirt on amazon (creepy!), i started to wonder what might happen if i searched for myself there. i figured nothing, but as it turns out, according to amazon search results a bunch of my articles have been cited in books in the past few years. tres bizarre, non?

apparently an article i wrote for the nyt was cited in college girls: bluestockings, sex kittens, and co-eds, then and now.

a piece i did for wired news was cited in branding unbound: the future of advertising, sales, and the brand experience in the wireless age.

and one of the first stories i wrote for wn was cited in consumer protection in the age of the ‘information economy.’

going west

Posted in general at 7:26 pm by rachelmetz

i’ll be in california dec. 29-jan. 7.

also, cupcake fighting league is getting mightier… we’re playing our first show some time in january, so keep an eye out!

put scooter in storage yesterday… not a day too late, apparently, because when i woke up this morning it was snowing. snow is kind of a pain, but i really do love the first snow of the season; it always looks so clean (until it all gets slushy and gross, hehe).

pretty quiet weekend… a few parties last night with jay, some fun stuff today, also band practice late this afternoon. i’m really digging playing with kristen and chris. it’s awesome to play my music and have them put in their own take on what i was always playing by myself and imagining in my head. we need a band name!

bought a cute jacket the other day.

guitar time.

worst pickup line ever

Posted in general at 11:00 am by rachelmetz

(if you’re talking to a female reporter, anyway)

“hey, you should write a story about me!”

heard many times, from many guys. heard last night, in fact. i always respond politely, and ask them to pitch themselves, then, since i need to know why i should be “writing” about them. i’d say i’m still waiting for a compelling answer, but actually i just hate this line. :]

really cool southern thanksgiving at matt’s with lydia and others. matt’s roommate made crazy awesome food, and their house is warm. their cat cries a lot, but he’s cute. like me as a little kid, in a boy cat suit?

it’s so nice outside. i have to run the gas out of my scooter, i think, since it’s getting really cold. maybe i should consult some kind of scooter expert first?

i went riding yesterday to williamsburg and it was ridiculously cold.

oh, i never post stories anymore, bleh. here are two recent ones:
